Spring is the traditional season for bringing order to our house, our garden, our life. It can also be a great time to confront the creative clutter that has accumulated in our writing drawer. It is also the season to nurture the new shoots that have begun to appear. This year we want to plant a large crop of inspiration.
May is the month to honour mothers.
Enjoy spoiling yours or someone else's. Who can be spoiled too much~!

Writing Tip: - Being published in literary journals offers the important
benefit of exposure. Agents and major book publishers regularly read literary

Cue Time - Every month we include a couple of writing ideas to help
you kick start your writing sessions.
1. Tell yourself the story
you are thinking of writing. By telling the story out loud you will hear any
discrepancies before you even set it down on paper.
2. Energy goes up and down throughout our day. Examine your low periods
to see if there is a pattern and how this might affect your writing life.
Keep an energy journal for a week or so. It might help with the development
of a character in a future writing piece.
Industry News: The Atlantic Monthly is no longer going to carry fiction thus eliminating a high profile market for writers. They will add a subscriber only fiction edition in August.
The answers offered in this column are the personal opinions of the staff at Windshift for Writers. They are in no way meant to take the place of the professional advice you may need to seek for your specific query.
Questions and Answers
Q. Does an editor have the right to make changes in my material without consulting me first? - Nigel L.
A. Generally speaking, yes. A magazine editor is often working to a tight deadline and might not have time to consult you. This is not as likely with non-fiction pieces especially very technical ones in which you are the expert.
