October 2008

Thought for the Month

How, but in custom and ceremony,

Are innocence and beauty born?

- W.B. Yeats - poet

Hello Readers and Writers,

This month we look towards the Canadian holiday of Thanksgiving. It is a time to be grateful for our bounty and for the traditions, customs and ceremonies that we have evolved with our families and friends. Each year I treasure not only the beautiful meal but the people around my Thanksgiving table.

Wishing you a month of bountiful times, including your writing ... Sandra

Publishing News:

Pennie Clark Ianniciello, Costco's book buyer, has picked The Gold
Coast
, a 1990 novel by Nelson DeMille, as her recent pick of the month . In Costco Connection, which goes to many of the warehouse club's members, she wrote:

"Over the years I've met many, many authors. One who sticks out in my
mind as being genuinely kind, a delight to speak with and overall great
person is . . . Nelson DeMille. Not only is he a real gentleman, he's
also a great writer. That combination of talent and charm made selecting
[The Gold Coast] a no-brainer.

Wall Street lawyer John Sutter is desperately trying to hold on to an
aristocratic legacy when a Mafia don draws him and his wife into a
violent world.

If you're looking for something with drama, passion,
friendship and big stakes, this is the book for you."

Oprah's next book club pick is The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski, published by Ecco. In a recent statement, Oprah said, "I think this book is right up there with the greatest American novels ever written."

Home News:

We are busy as usual at Windshift Press with our Fall/Winter publishing schedule, autumn book events and making our annual trip to the Frankfurt Book fair.

We are thrilled to be publishing That Is How It Is by Moishe Nadir, translated by Harvey Fink, a glorious selection of Nadir's prose translated from the Yiddish by Harvey Fink.

In November we are publishing the second book of a murder mystery trilogy from the Sooke author Shirley Skidmore. This second volume, Murder in The Sooke Potholes, is a well researched police procedural.

Both books will be available in all good bookstores and through the Windshift Press on-line bookstore

We recently received the e-mail below. Congratulations, Kenn on your success and we wish you a similar success with your new book. Any subscribers interested in Kenn's book can find it on the Trafford website.

Hi Windshift Press

I think it was an announcement in your e-mail newsletter that fascinated me. I followed it up; entered the contest; and guess what!

Thanks for for the lead!

I have just finished the "Second Book of the Huguenot Trilogy", FOLLOW THE WIND, to be published by Traffords of Victoria, BC.

Warm regards.

Kenn Joubert
