Thought for the Month

In solitude we give passionate attention to our lives, to our memories, to the details around us. - Virginia Woolf, writer

Hello Authors and Readers,

Spring is still dragging its heels here on the BC coast. As I wait to plant some of my more tender plants I am learning about the art of puttering. I am finding that it is a wonderful activity for allowing the mind to wander and to create. It doesn't seem to matter what jobs you are puttering with or where you are doing them to be able to find this wonderful fruitful place of mind.

Happy puttering,

Sandra

Publishing News:

Watch This Space

Amazon has acquired world English rights to a self-published novel by a Midwestern teenager titled Legacy. The acquisition is the first for its newly launched publishing program, AmazonEncore. Amazon is re-releasing the fantasy title, in hardcover, in August. The book, by Cayla Kluver, is part of a planned a trilogy. It was originally published by Forsooth Books, founded by Kluver and her mother.

Jeff Belle,VP of books at Amazon, said the new publishing program, while focused on self-published books with promise, might also target out-of-print titles from major publishing houses. Amazon is still vague about the criteria for choosing books for this new programme but will rely on a combination of sales data and customer feedback to aid their decision making.

Home News:

April and May have proved exceedingly busy months at Windshift Press. We published another in Shirley Skidmore's murder mystery series, Murder on the Galloping Goose.

We also published the second translation from the Yiddish by Harvey Fink titled That Is How It Is, containing another selection of the writings of Moishe Nadir.

We are working on several new book proposals which will make for a busy autumn season.

Along with our busy publishing programme we have attended several author events and bookfairs in support of our authors. The most recent event was the Pacific Festival of the Book in Victoria BC. Although its theme was one of Beat Poets and that era, it was an opportunity for the writing and publishing community to meet old friends and make new ones. http://www.pacificfestivalofthebook.com/
