Publishing News: Congratulations to the Canadian authors on the Man Booker International Prize short-list. The Man Booker International Prize given every two years to recognizes a writer for their overall contribution to fiction on the world stage. This year's nominees are: Chinua Achebe, Margaret Atwood, John Banville, Peter
Carey, Don DeLillo, The winner of the $118,000 award will be announced in June. ********* Canadian Booker winner Yann Martel has
started a book club of one ********* Peter Ackroyd has signed a six-book deal
with Macmillan for what the author describes as "for me, a profoundly
important project - no less than the biography of England in six volumes."
The deal was negotiated by Sonia Land of Sheil Land and, while no figure
is being mentioned, it's sure to be a lucrative one. The aim is to publish
volume one in 2011. *********
Mobile phone users in Sweden will be able to access more than 100 HarperCollins English language audiobooks following a deal with service provider BOKiLUR (which literally translates as 'book-on-phone'). The service will roll out across a number of other European countries over the next 12 months. Phone users can listen to two minutes of the books for free before deciding to purchase at around euro15 for each title. The audio is streamed to the phone without the need download via a computer.
