December 2006

Thought for the Month

There are two ways of spreading light; to be
The candle or the mirror that reflects it.

- Edith Wharton -

Hello Writers

And so another year is drawing to a close. It is a time for seasonal celebrations with our families and a time to look towards our goals for 2007. We should also take a few moments to congratulate ourselves on our writing successes of 2006. Sometimes we are so busy helping everyone around us that we forget to reward ourselves.

Together with all of the staff at the Windshift Press Group I would like to wish you and your loved ones the best of the season and a very prosperous 2007.

I would like to extend a thank you to everyone for making this newsletter an important monthly connection for me.

Best wishes,

Sandra

Publishing News:

For the second time in as many years, a big Hollywood movie studio has come calling for Canadian historical fantasy author Guy Gavriel Kay. In 2005, Warner Brothers announced an option on his 1995 novel The Lions of Al-Rassan.

Textbook publisher Houghton Mifflin was acquired by Riverdeep, an Irish educational software publisher, for $1.75 billion this week.

Houghton Mifflin will now have the technological expertise as the education publishing industry shifts to electronic media. Riverdeep's popular educational software brands include Reader Rabbit, Carmen Sandiego and Cluefinders.

We have had a terrific 2006. We published six new titles for a total twenty-one books across the Windshift Press Group. We have ten titles already planned for 2007 with more to come. We represent at least sixteen titles of independent authors with further titles under consideration. And we went to the Frankfurt Book Fair and were warmly received. Look out 2007~! We had a good time under the tent at Word on the Street in Vancouver.

Windshift Press authors did book events and tours across the country with great successes in Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Calgary. Now we are knee deep in snow and Christmas Craft Fairs.

We attended a number of local and regional book events meeting a wide range of old friends and new acquaintances.
